A Netflix original worthy of the Golden Globe it was nominated to and the one it actually got. Hello Story Lovers, today I want to share with you guys my series review/recommendation (spoiler free!): Bodyguard starring Richard Madden, winner of the Golden Globe for best actor in a Drama Series, award he so rightfully deserved! I must confess...I was in a series-watching slump (if that's a real thing) and I decided to give Bodyguard a chance...well it pushed me right off that slump. I binge-watched it, and I'm proud of it.

A British tv series filled with suspense, action and a nation-wide problem that'll crack open your mind as you get sucked into this twisted political maze. Bodyguard tells the story of David Budd (Richard Madden) a war veteran suffering from PTSD, whose job now is to protect Home Secretary Julia Montague (Keeley Hawes) who turns out to be involved in a very complicated political situation, a conspiracy, that'll compromise David's career, moral compas, family, life and, further more, his mental and emotional state.
Is he paranoid? Is there something larger and much more dangerous brewing in the shadows of justice? What's his true role in all this? Who's the real threat? Who's the puppet? And, who's the puppeteer?
I don't want to overdo my summery because I may spoil everything unintentionally, and that is something I don't want to do...not knowing anything it's where part of the awesomeness of this production lies. You'll never know what hit you...until the very end.
It's unpredictable.
It's intense.
It's true to the very core. Confrontational.
Raw.
The script is written in a way that'll give you the clues you need at the precise time, but you won't actually notice what you've been given. All departments are incredibly accurate, enhancing this sense of intrigue and confusion, giving the whole set a power only a really well produced mystery can muster.
But, the score is one of my favorite aspects of this production.
Ruth Barrett and Ruskin Williamson did an excellent job composing such rich music, precise for what was needed at each scene. The low notes they incorporated synchronizes with the adrenaline pumping through your veins. You'll notice, believe me...it gives you chills.
Plus! The acting.

Richard Madden.
Golden Globe for best actor in a Drama series.
His role as David Budd has veracity. Do you know how difficult that is to achieve?
There's truth in every word, gesture, action and emotion he produces. It's so easy to connect with this character thanks to Richard's acting skills...I did during the first 10 minutes of the first episode.
That's not something many actors/characters can achieve, and it's actually one of the most important aspects of a film/series/book. If you don't feel emotionally attached to a character...something it's wrong. Maybe it's the script/writing or maybe in the acting. Anyhow...no connection, and the audience will lose interest. They won't care what happens to the character...so what's the point of telling his/her story if nobody actually cares?
I think...Richard Madden has made it to my top 10 favorite actors. Definitely.
So, all I've left to say...it'll be quite a ride. So buckle up and take it.
It'll be worth it.
Your Friend,
Camila
