The TV Series. Spoiler Free! History, romance, time travel, danger, action...Outlander has it all. I'm in love with the series and I am going to tell you why you should watch Outlander.

Because you'll love it too. Plain and simple.

Outlander Season 1 Poster

Outlander tells the story of Claire (Caitriona Balfe), a British nurse from 1945, married to Frank (Tobias Menzies). One trip to Scotland would change everything, when she gets thrown to the year 1745. There, she'll need to do anything and everything to survive, and that includes getting married to another man: Jamie (Sam Heughan). Soon she develops new feelings for him, but she also discovers that Jack, Jamie's mortal enemy, is also Frank's ancestor.

2 marriages.

2 different periods of time.

But only 1 true love.

Lets begin with the plot.

Outlander has a basic time travel kind of thing going on, but the characters and the time period chosen for this particular story is what makes Outlander one of the best time travel series I've ever watched.

Claire is a strong woman who doesn't take crap from anyone. She curses freely and, as a nurse, knows that when a life needs to be saved, she is the one to do so. That's all good for a British nurse from the year 1945, but once in 1745 these character traits make her stand out: she's obviously an outlander and not just because of her accent. She's definitely weird and Caitriona is the perfect Claire.

Jaime is perfect. Ok...obviously not perfect, but he is a tough highlander, who puts everyone else's need before his. Caring, fierce, sexy (Sam...duh!) and direct, he develops a true passionate love for Claire. We can see why she would do anything to be with him and protect him...even if it means from someone who has Frank's face and genes.

Plus, she comes from the future...she knows what will become of the clans...their history and destiny, Jaime's history and destiny, before it's written down...What will she do with this?

Sigh...

The setting!

Scotland 1745...the Highlands. This time period isn't explored by the film industry as much as I would want. World Wars, the Cold War and Dictatorships are the main setting/plot for most of them, and these time periods are amazing but...

Craigh na dun

Scotland has such beautiful sights and its culture and history are so full of magic and wonder, that I was soon drawn to all its mysteries. There is no better place to make someone travel through time than this, where superstitions and magic are carved permanently to every single pebble and grass, waiting to resurface.

Plus, the art director surely had a fun time with costumes, sets and hairstyles. As did the DP with the amazing shots to portrait the intensity of a passionate highlander love and holding the responsibility of showing the beauty and mysteries of Scotland at the same time. It's all about balance.

More Seasons!

The rest of the seasons (currently 4 of them) follow the line of Claire and Jamie's story. I won't give details because I don't want spoilers in this post...but, I am just going to say: their adventure in Season 1 is nothing compared to what comes next...and that is saying something.

Would they be able to change history?

I really recommend Outlander. It's strong (sex and violence and bla), but Jaime and Claire's story is so worth a watch. You'll be missing soooo much if you don't.

What are you still doing here? Go watch Outlander!

Your friend,

Camila
