Hello Story Lovers! We need to talk about Seven...spoiler free! David Fincher's film is a must see if you like a little (or in this case...a lot!) of crime and thriller to spice up your day.

Seven is a Film about two detectives (yeah...Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman) who encounter a strange and very particular crime case. It seems they have a serial killer on the loose that'll test them in every way possible. This particular killer needs to prove a point, to teach humanity a lesson, and in his sacred mission, the detectives have a crucial role to play.
7 crimes, 7 sins, 1 serial killer.
"What sick ridiculous puppets we are...and what gross little stage we dance on... What fun we have dancing and fucking... Not a care in the world...Not knowing that we are nothing...We are not what was intended."
It's been a while since I had this movie on my to-watch list, and I finally, and thankfully, spared the time for it.
Seven treats a common topic (crime solving) that we have seen thousands of times in books, other movies, series and...well, even in real life. The line/philosophy that John Doe (a.k.a the Serial Killer) follows is what's intriguing about this movie. Raw as it is, and in the most cruel way possible, John Doe makes us face an ugly truth of our world...our humanity. His little speeches confront us with the sinner inside every one of us as if he was placing a mirror right in front of our noses. If you stop and think about his words you'll see some truth in them and that...scared the crap out of me. It doesn't mean his actions are right and morally correct (they are sooo not!) but the script is so intricate and rounded that you actually understand what and why he's doing what he's doing.
Apart from that, and this also falls right into the script, the lines the story follows are deliberately thought for us to emotionally connect with the detectives and feel the cruelty of what may come. David Flincher knows how to build up tension, suspense and anguish. You'll feel in a loop, in a maze guided by the one you want to hunt down. The whole thing (camera angles, color, settings, art and sound) is design for this exact purpose. You believe you're the hunter, when in reality you are John Doe's pray throughout the whole thing...and this is how he plays with the detectives' mind and at the same time, with our own.

And the acting...well the cast is made up of amazingly talented actors who gave their characters the level of truth that this film needed. Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman's performance allows the objective of the movie to be accomplished and, more than that, it pushes to the limits what a raw human emotion looks and feels like, getting the spectator to understand to the deepest level what their characters are thinking and feeling to the very bones.
So if you like this kind of thing, you now...films that play with your mind, the you have to give this movie a chance!
David Fincher is a well-known director for his thriller-themed films. Seven, Gone Girl, Zodiac and Fight Club are just some of many movies this director has under his name, and if, after this review you decide to watch Seven and you love it as much as I did, I know....I know you'd want to keep going with that long thrilling list David Fincher has under his ever-so-talented sleeve.
Fun Facts! (Spoiler Alert!)
If you haven't watched the movie just skip this part...go watch it and then come back!
Brad Pitt was injured shooting the movie. He severed a tendon in his arm so the cast he had to wear had to be added into the script!
Morgan Freeman's character was the one who was supposed to shoot the killer, but Brad Pitt though his character had more grounded reason to do it.
In the opening scene, all the numbers in the building start with 7.
Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water, Pan's Laberynth) turned down the direction of this project because the film had a dark vision of the world he couldn't commit or connect with.
Kevin Spacey's name was cut off from the opening credits so that people wouldn't know John Doe's identity (or face) from the beginning of the movie...it was a surprise.
So there you go...I even threw out some extra recommendations for you thriller lover. If you have watched it already, tell me what you think about it. Or if you just want to share something with me about David Fincher's movies, style and stuff...you are also welcomed to do so! Just write a comment down below!
That's it!
