Not all movies can get a 5/5 rating and The Perfect Date isn't even close to a 3/5. Hello Story Lovers, today I want to talk about the new Netflix movie The Perfect Date with Noah Centineo. Yes, it's a teen flick romance kind of film with loved actors such as Noah, Camila Mendes and Laura Marano.

But...

That's all there is in this film...

The Perfect Date tells the story of Brooks Rattigan (Noah Centineo), a teenager whose dream is to go to Yale even though he can't afford it. After accepting an offer of taking tough-rich Celia (Laura Marano) to a dance as a chaperone and been payed for it...an idea comes to him.

Why not create an app where people can hire his services as a chaperon? He would be anyone the person would want him to be, and he would be getting money to go to Yale.

While these dates are happening, Brooks falls in love with Shelby (Camila Mendes) but at the same time, his friendship with Celia grows.

Now he has to figure out:

What does he want?

What does he really need?

And, most importantly, who's Brooks Rattigan?

This is the type of film you watch just for entertainment, to have fun, but that's as far as this movie goes. Starting with the fact that the narrative and the plot are predictable, and there's nothing worse than to know what will happen from the beginning of the film. Plus, everything that happens, feels like it was placed there because they needed for that particular event to take place...what I mean is, there's no organic sense of storytelling here, but a series of events connected to make the illusion of a story.

Sigh...

It tries to connect with the viewer through the situation. Sometimes we don't know what we really need and we fight for what we believe is our dream when in reality, it's actually what society wants you to think that's what you want. There are some moments, small specks in an infinite sea, where I could feel this connection working its way through me. But the dialogues, or whatever happened next, would reck the small progress. I mean...There were dialogues that would make me face-slap myself.

Not a good sign.

Ok. I get the idea of this movie. It's about finding your identity and being proud of who you really are, which is an amazing message for everyone out there...there's a lot of low esteem issues now a days. But The Perfect Date only scratches the surface of each character and the relationship between them, and that's why the connection between the viewer and the characters isn't there...or isn't as strong as it should be for the message of the movie to really sink in.

Oh! And you know what else bothered me? The actions of the characters weren't coherent at all, completely disconnected from their personalities! I won't spoil the movie for you, if you still want to see it, but there were moments were there was no sense as to what was happening.

I'm just going to say: If someone gets mad at Brooks...they magically forgive him just because.

It's not that I'm against rom coms...I actually enjoy them a lot, but not this one.

So, you've been warned. But if you want to see Noah yet again, charming everybody with his smile, go ahead. He's amazing to watch hahaha I can't deny that.

Your Friend,

Camila
